What We're Learning

Welcome to the Thrasher Music website.

                                                                    Fifth Grade

The fifth grade will finally get to present their program on an evening all their own. Come and hear them perform "The Blue and the Gray" on Thursday, May 10, at 6 pm. Each student has chosen his or her part and is eager to share it with you. You will recognize many of the songs they will do. There has been very little time to prepare for the final showing, but they are going to do their best regardless. Don't worry, those of you with peanut allergies. The children will be singing about those tasty legumes but not serving them. With handbells and everything the program will be between 40 and 45 minutes long. See you Thurday evening.

Girls wear long skirts and blouses or long dresses. Think "Little House on the Prairie." I have been telling the students to check the many re-sale shops with which we are blessed here on the mountain as well as downtown. Boys wear either navy or gray. Sweatpants and a t-shirt are just fine. Do not let lack of these clothing articles prohibit attendance. The program is a team effort and the students are counting on each other. It will be their last elementary performance.

                                                                     Recorders

Recorders will be used throughout the entire school year and students are to bring their recorders and books to music class each week. The cost for the book, recorder, and strap is $9. I have encouraged the students to earn the money or to use their allowance to pay for the recorder package. If you decide to write a check, make it payable to Thrasher Elementary. All students will play "O, How Lovely Is The Evening" by memory at their graduation May 18.

All stars were due May 1. I gave an extension for those who are not up-to-date. I am available before and after school and at recess Wednesday through Friday. Recess will be forfeited until all assignments are completed.

                                                    Thrasher Handbell Choir

The end-of-the-year Handbell party is tomorrow May 8, at recess. Students may bring their favorite snack and favorite CD. I am also providing punch and munchies. We will rehearse after school as usual in preparation for graduation and the fifth grade program Thursday evening at 6 pm.

                                                                       Third Grade

"A Tennessee Ballad," complete with the Tennessee Waltz, will be presented by the third graders at our last PTA meeting of the school year May 8. Come, see and hear, some of Tennessee's most well-known musicians with students impersonating Dolly, Elvis, and Aretha. Are you curious as to which role your child chose in the third grade production?

Attire for the students is long blue jeans and a solid red, white, or blue shirt---the colors of our Tennessee flag.
