Math

This week we are continuing Topic 20, Adding and Subtracting Tens and Ones. We will practice adding and subtracting to 2-digit numbers.

This Week's Essential Questions:

How can two-digit numbers be added and subtracted?

IXL assignment due Monday:

Literacy

We are continuing our author study of Eve Bunting this week. We are practicing asking ourselves questions as we read to help us better understand the text.

We are also continuing guided small-group reading this week, which consists of reading a book on the children's instructional levels, learning strategies to decode and comprehend, and practicing sight words and spelling patterns. Guided reading groups meet for about 15-20 minutes daily.

In writing, we are continuing to develop fiction stories that complement our science unit. The children have already developed their characters and setting. This week we will work on developing plots that contain a problem and solution.

Science & Soc. Studies

This week in Science, we will continue our Habitats unit. We will learn more about the habitat of our area by exploring the school-ground and observing and recording living, non-living, and once-living things around us. We will also explore how plants' and animals' parts help them survive in their environments.

Essential Questions:

How do the parts of living things help them survive in their environment?

How do animals adapt to their environment?
