Welcome to 2nd Grade!
I enjoyed meeting so many of you this evening at the parent orientation. Thank you for your involvement!
Reminders and General Information:
- Required summer reading this year was Donavan's Word Jar by Monalisa DeGross. I have asked that students who have a copy bring that book to class each day this week.
- The "animal bracelets" that are so popular have become a major distraction in class and are functioning as "toys" for many students. I have asked students to leave those at home.
- Students are permitted a restroom opportunity at 8:00 before class begins at 8:05, 10:00, 11:10 when we wash for lunch, 12:10 when we return from recess, and 1:40 when we return from our related arts class. I will begin keeping a record of students who leave class at other times so you can help us figure out what the problem is. I am not comfortable with refusing bathroom requests, but students who must leave the classroom during lessons miss important instruction and activities.
- Beginning tomorrow (Tuesday), students will sign a "behavior book" anytime they have to move their clips. They will write the date, the reason, and then sign it. I hope this will help ensure that they know exactly what behavior is the problem and be able to let you know why they had to walk at recess.
- Students may bring "neat" snacks that will allow them to continue to work while snacking. Children are also welcome to bring water bottles with a sport cap to have in the classroom during the day.
- Students may bring a light weight sweater or jacket to keep in the classroom if needed, as the temperature varies somewhat during the day.
- Please sign your child's assignment book each night. I have asked students to take responsibility for coming to you with a pen in hand and asking for that signature, as well as for being sure required materials are in the backpack before bedtime.
- If your child has a change of the regular way home, please send me a note as well as talk with your child to avoid misunderstandings. Thank you for your help with this. The office will not accept phoned-in changes in the way home, due to the safety issues involved. In the event of an emergency, however, please call Mrs. Randolph.
- If your child should be absent, please send in a note for me to forward to the office so the absence can be officially recorded in the system as "excused." If you have contact with the doctor, a doctor's note is always the best documentation to send. Notes should be sent the day the child returns to school if possible.
- Please send me a note as soon as possible to let me know of any food allergies or medical conditions I should be aware of.
- Mrs. Randolph has asked that teachers remind parents about the safety issues regarding cell phone use in the car rider line. Due to the danger of distractions, we are asking that parents not use their phones while in the area where children are going to their cars. We appreciate your help in keeping all the children safe.
- Our math homelinks books have been sent home. This book is to stay at home. From time to time, the homework assignment will be to bring in a specific assignment from that book.
- Our typical schedule is to have homework on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings only. Please read with your child every night, however. It really does help build skills more quickly.
- Please check back here often for updates. We're off to a great start!
