TEC is back and ready for another year of having fun helping our Earth! Our first TEC meeting is this Tuesday, September 15th . We meet after school from 3:05 – 4:05 in the Art Room. TEC is open to all students in grades 3 – 5. We have one meeting a month, usually on the 2 nd Tuesday, after school from 3:05 – 4:05. Any student interested in joining TEC is welcome to come on Tuesday. Permission slips have been sent home with students this week. You can also download a permission slip off the link on this page (in left column). They can be returned to the student's teacher or brought to the meeting. We're looking forward to seeing our returning TEC members as well as meeting new friends!
This year, TEC celebrates ten years of Thrasher students working to improve our environment at home, at school and in our community. We learn about recycling, endangered animals, keeping our water and air clean, feeding wildlife, conserving energy and water and other ways we can help the Earth. We have guest speakers, make crafts from recyclable materials, and get outside and enjoy nature. We perform skits at assembly and celebrate Earth Week with special activities for the whole school.
TEC members are also responsible for collecting the recycling at Thrasher each week. We collect paper, plastic bottles, aluminum cans and cardboard from every classroom, office and the workroom. All parents are welcome to help with our weekly recycling collection. Just check the "Recycling" link. TEC also collects used ink cartridges, cell phones and other small electronics for "Cartridges for Kids" (please see link in left column). Thrasher earns cash for recycling these items while also keeping them out of our landfills. We are also starting a new collection for empty juice pouches, cookie wrappers, power bar wrappers and other items for TerraCycle, which will create new products from these materials. Check out our links to Cartridges for Kids and TerraCycle for a complete list of items we are collecting at Thrasher!
If you have any questions about TEC, please contact Corinne Giagnorio at corinnelise@earthlink.net .
